Exotic Women
Series I

Originals & Editions

One of Sue Swerdlow's favorite subjects is the depiction of exotic women in the context of their culture, lifestyle and mythology. The portraits in the Exotic Women series show a beautiful blending of Eurasian, African and Polynesians representing women in all their artistry and grace. These renderings evoke the sensuous and mysterious wonderment of women.

Original Stolen 1989

Original Kabuki SOLD December 2009

In September 1989 at the King Kamehameha Hotel ballroom, Kabuki Faces was stolen during a gala event fundraiser for the West Hawaii Arts Guild. The Painting was well documented and the theft publicized throughout the state's Galleries and Art Communities.
Rewards were offered.
Gradually talk of the theft subsided, and the Painting's whereabouts were never known...until I met someone in Hilo "by chance" who described Kabuki Faces and said it was hanging in a home where he was working...in Kohala Ranch! We contacted the homeowner and came to see the Painting. Words cannot describe the moment! I informed the "owner" he was in Possession of Stolen Goods. With little fanfare, in September of 2003, 14 years to the month after it was stolen, Kabuki Faces came Home to its Rightful Owner.
This story has more twists and turns, and we are still curious about its Mysterious Journey.
I'm sure in time the forces will reveal all...for, in Reality, Hawai'i is still a small town.
